"cmap" a.k.a. c-map, is a shortened form of the term "connectivity map". While there are countless methods of organizing information, the cmap was (and is) my organically developed/evolved solution to my personal organization problems. I think it goes without saying that when you're creating a continuum, or even a universe for that matter the quantity and diversity of information required to make it coherent is vast. This was the first real operational ceiling I encountered during the formative years of the neotoy design project.

Coincidentally at the same time, my thought process was heavily influenced by my research in several interrelated branches of science. From this research arose my "connectivity theory"; in short it can be neatly summarized using the somewhat trite neoliberal catch phrase "everything is connected".

A bit of trivia, for several years the text "everything_is_connected" placed at the bottom of the page along with my email address was one of only two elements that remained a consistent part of the site index, surviving all but the most severe revisions.

The structure of the cmap itself is based on the vague yet profound speculation that connectivity is one of, if not the, most important foundational aspects of knowledge and learning. Therefore visual emphasis is placed on relational connectivity between each element of the design.
