A denizen is essentially an android. The word "denizen" is a generic umbrella term that applies to all organisms both "living" and "mechanical" that inhabit the city planet. In general terms there are three primary classes of organisms: mechanical, non-mechanical ("organic"), and integrated (hybrid). Within these three classes there are several sub-classes, but it's far more important to note that while categories abound the fact is that all denizens in neotoy are synthetic organisms; everything is in quote marks because those words as they are classically defined simply do not apply to a universe and its inhabitants where the fundamental building blocks of "nature" themselves have been reimagined; at best they are comparative. For example a block of wood carved in the shape of a fish may be referred to as a "fish", it is however no more a fish than it is a tree.

The same goes for denizens in neotoy. Flesh and blood is in fact synthetic flesh and synthetic blood; the "atoms" and "molecules" that comprise these synthetic cells are likewise synthetic constructs of raw energy. If nothing else, classes, categories and distinctions help the reader to better understand the motivations, allegiance and functionality of each individual. Naturally this raises the perfectly reasonable question: why have different types of denizens when clearly only one is needed?

The answer is of course that neotoy is not intended to be a perfect world, rather the original necessity of its genesis was a mission given to the artificial intelligence that became the core: save us from ourselves. This vague mandate left a lot of room for artistic freedom in interpretation. The core determined that only slight alterations to the holistic system were necessary, it made the aesthetic choice to retain a degree of diversity, within certain limits. The three dimensions of robots, humans, and animals provided an ideal balance.

All denizens are capable of existential influence, their biology has been altered in such a way that they possess a greater density than conventional organisms, also they have been modified in such a way that they are potentially much more powerful, they are able to focus internal energy and interact with external energy in ways that normal beings could only fantasize about. Their culture reinforces the mentality that allows them to train and cultivate these innate abilities.

Being of a superior nature, naturally neotopian society is more advanced and serious than our own, I should say complex in comparison, primarily because power is directly proportional to responsibility if there is to be survival. Such as it is the social structure exists because it is based on an enlightened infrastructure of logical ethics. Common good philosophy that is maintained by even the most vicious and degenerate denizens; because it is all they have to anchor them to reality, they are like abandoned children clinging to the only thing that gives them any sense of value. In their minds, their fundamental psychological model, to be without these ethics is to not exist, it is to be totally excommunicated from life.
